2006 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon
We bought this Legacy GT in 2006 to replace the Passat Wagon. The lines are sleek, tidy and sporty. The 250 bhp iteration of the EJ257 2.5L turbo motor and AWD were huge improvements over our older wagon's 170 bhp inline turbo-four. The car felt solid and quick. Best of all, no more FWD. Both our cars were turbocharged, all-wheel-drive, sharp-handling speed machines. I loved driving this wagon.
Unfortunately Subaru dropped the manual transmission from the wagon options list in 2006, but my wife wanted to try out an automatic for baby duty, so it kinda worked out. Fortunately the Subaru 5A is the best conventional automatic transmission I've ever driven. Shifts are quick and, in "manual" mode, entirely predictable and doesn't second-guess the driver, even so far as allowing the engine to bounce off the rev limiter if you so (foolishly) desire.
